Thursday 3rd March – bike **** – Two rivers, Orwell to the Deben including lunch at Landguard - sunny

After two horrible wet days here in Felixstowe we had a lovely sunny all be it a little hazy day with a light onshore breeze. Mag was up early and had a sunrise walk along the prom while I was asleep! I even did my exercises in the back garden for the first time this year before we made the most of the great weather by taking our Bovril to Landguard on the bikes:) We left home just after midday stopping off at Lidl and spotted a thrush in Langer Park, then we continued to Landguard, I went to the view point while Mag went straight to the jetty lunch spot. Despite there hardly being a cloud in the sky it was hazy at sea level. The path leading from the viewpoint has been eroded but you could still get through by lifting your bike over a small fence! The Orwell looked lovely with very little wind and with the tide whizzing out causing a good swell in the channel! We sat for ages enjoying our lunch, Mag even got me a free apple puff from Lidl especially as there were very few people about. Then back through the nature reserve to the busy prom which was difficult to cycle with loads of shingle washed over it after the recent strong winds! Mag then headed up Bent Hill and home while I did the usual route to Felixstowe Ferry, stopping to talk to Swainy flying his radio-controlled glider in the perfect onshore breeze. The Ferry was a nice as usual as I headed out on the muddy Deben path to Marsh Lane back to Felixstowe and home.
